Source of Data

The counter is based on the latest CDC estimates of approximately 86,000 annual overdose deaths in the United States.

Calculation

86,000 deaths ÷ 365 days ≈ 235 deaths per day
– The counter updates in real time using seconds passed in the current day:
deaths_per_second = 235 ÷ 86400 ≈ 0.00272

How the Counter Works

The counter starts at 0 at midnight every day.
It continuously updates every second based on the calculation above.
This provides an estimated number of overdose deaths in real time for the current day.
